The New York born and bred Jazz Flutist saxophonist and composer is bringing a fresh creative voice with his unique blend of electric jazz and modern composition.
Charles Compo has recorded solo albums on Smithsonian Folkways "Seven Flute Solos", Psycho Jammy (Lakeside Records) Seventh Moon (Star Records). He has been featured on dozens of recordings including with William Hooker: Radiation (Homestead Records), Great Sunset (Knitting Factor Records) The Distance Between Us (Knitting Factory Records) Lifeline (Silkheart Records) Radiation (Homestead Records), Firmament Fury (Dodd) Vulnerability (ERL Records) with Donald Miller of Borbetomagus, Doctor Phibes "Portable Darkness" produced by Don Fury. His group The Phibes has recorded two CDs: "Soothing Music of the Savage Beast" and "The Phibes" on Lakeside Records.

Charles Compo's creative collaborations include work with legendary artist, filmmaker and musicologist Harry Smith. His compositions were used frequently in Smith's live movie performances at the Filmmakers Collective and the Anthology Film Archives and he composed the score for Smith's Fragments of a Faith Forgotten. Harry Smith introduced him to Moses Asch and he was one of the last artists signed by Ashe to Folkways Records. He has also composed music for, and worked with, an extensive list of choreographers and dance companies including Twyla Tharp and Luis Falco and been featured on National Public Radio. He has performed and recorded over the years with a diverse list of creative jazz artist including Sahib Shehab, William Hooker, Roy Cambell Jr., and Sonny Sharrock. Compo has also performed with classic stars and modern divas like Martha Reeves, Julie Cruise and Christina Aguilera. Featured performances have included The Hennessey Jazz Festival, The Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival, The Vision Festival, The Maine Art Festival, Return To The Forbidden Planet (Off Broadway), numerous telivision features as well as performaces in legendary East Village clubs like CBGBs, The Pyramid Club, 8BC and Roulette with artists like Don Fury and Rain Worthington. These recordings feature some really great musicians: Ted Daniel on trumpet, Curtis Fowlkes on trombone, Jerry Brooks on bass, the late Sam Furnace on alto, Dave Patrick on bass (plus production and some writing), Mark Peterson, bass, Tony Stewart, keys, long time associaties and friends Mustafa Ahmed and Jon Bates on percussion and drums, Randy London on drums, and many others.
